God does answer prayers. even the littlest ones.

i went grocery shopping yesterday. on the way to the food section, i saw my favorite brand of cookies (chips delight soft brownie cookies!) and excitedly grabbed a bag. yay for chocolate!

as i was lining up for my purchases, i decided not to get them cookies anymore because they were not part of the budget. as i was walking home, a bit sad for not being able to get my chocolate fix,   i quietly told God, "God, gusto ko po ng chocolate bukas..."

and LO and BEHOLD! before my day at work ended today, one of my colleagues gave me this HUGE bar of chocolate! with hazelnuts! and it wasn't just ANY bar of chocolate, it was SWISS chocolate!  (it sorta looked like the photo on the left but the treat given to me had hazelnuts and was not "dark.")

yes, friends... God answers prayers! sometimes we think that he seems soooooo far away. we think, rather, we worry that he won't be able to heal our sick loved ones, or provide for tuition and/or bill payments, or even restore broken relationships. but come on now, he's GOD! didn't he say that his arm ain't too short and his ears ain't too dull to hear? if he was able to bring forth LIGHT with JUST A WORD, don't you think he'd be able to answer all your prayers and concerns and more?

i may have had the littlest and seemingly most insignificant want--but if God was able to answer that prayer, how much more the things that mean the most to you (and me, and all of the people? nyuk hyuk hyuk.. corny )?

have a blessed vacation!

i am reminded

The only accurate way to understand ourselves is by what God is and by what he does for us, not by what we are and what we do for him.

~ Romans 12:3, The Message

thanks for reminding me, God

AVERAGE signs!!!!

last sunday the topic at our church's service was the pinoy's "pwede na" mentality. we tend not to be excellent in the way we live our lives, always shrugging things off with "pwede na!" the preaching was awesome, not just because of the "funniness" of pastor robert, but because this way of thinking rings very true in our culture, and i admit that i've had my fair share of laziness and procrasination in doing things.

pastor robert's initial illustration to the topic was showing all of us a few signs that didn't exactly make the grade. some examples were: HOUSE FOR SALE - FULLY FURNACED; WANTED: WAITER, CASHIER, WASHIER; and WANTED: BOY WAITRESS. we all got a kick out of these signs.

while i was looking for a book in my closet i realized that my planner had some of these too! so i'm gonna share these "signs" to you as well. hope you have a good laugh!

it's my dad's birthday tomorrow

and i'm excited. i'm looking forward to talking to him. i'm so excited about it, i'm blogging about it already.

my dad, jose maria j. rubrico III, always had a way with words. he thought a lot, and would often wax philosophical on the dinner table, on long drives, on the times we spent together. he liked looking at things, analyzing them his point of view, and sharing his ideas to all of us. he also loved to read, a habit his three daughters caught. dad was also a sharp communicator--he knew how to get his point across, sometimes with matching exclamation points.

dad's love language is giving gifts. he always had pasalubong whenever he was gone for business trips. he particularly liked bringing fruit home from the remote areas he'd be going to. though he was wordy, he wasn't the appreciative-through-words kind of person. he just liked to give, and give, and give.

oh, i could go on and on and on about my dad, but ... i'm thankful that God gave me a dad like him, regardless of strengths and weaknesses, good points and bad. i'm thankful that God is giving him another year of life, another year of blessing. and i am thankful that he's the person God created him to be.

love you daddy!
